For nineteen years, 1763 was the gravitational center of Atlanta's BDSM community - a private membership club known for its scale, its safety culture, and its commitment to education.
Founded in 2003 by Atlanta dominatrix Ms. Whip, Club 1763 grew into one of the largest BDSM play spaces in the country. Located in a discreetly bland industrial-park building in Tucker, Georgia, the venue housed spanking benches, flogging racks, rope-rigging structures, and indoor and outdoor gathering spaces. The dungeon doors were flanked by torches in a castle motif.
It was a private membership club. Inside, the rules were simple: no alcohol, no cell phones. Dungeon monitors - trained volunteers with first-aid certification - kept watch over every room. The club hosted lectures, demonstrations, scene observations, and play parties. It anchored major regional conventions including DomCon Atlanta for more than a decade and the annual Frolicon.
By the late 2010s 1763 had drawn thousands of members from across Georgia and the Southeast. There was nothing comparable in the region.
Rope classes, negotiation workshops, impact-play instruction, scene-safety training. Education ran weekly, often before play parties opened.
Independent kink groups - Whippersnappers, Nouveau Atlanta, the Atlanta-Area Spanking Society and others - hosted munches, classes, and themed nights at 1763.
Trained dungeon monitors, no alcohol, strict consent culture, and a commitment to making first-time visitors feel like they had walked into Pride.
"It's almost like the first time you go to Pride." - Ms. P, on first-time visitors to 1763
1763 is closed, but the community it served is still here - active, growing, and building new spaces. If you came looking for the dungeon, you came looking for community. Here are some places to start.
Most of 1763's furnishings, and a great deal of its institutional knowledge, moved with the community to Decadent Desires, founded by Varsler and KinkyVagabond in 2023. They are not us; we are an archive. But they are continuing the work.
